The Endowment for Agricultural Safety and Health

We all share in the proud agrarian traditions of Pennsylvania. But a part of that legacy we can do without—the high death and injury rates in agriculture which often claim the lives of children, cripple dedicated workers, and force families out of farming. The College of Agricultural Sciences is dedicated to finding ways of making farming safer, while protecting the independence and way of life of farming families. That's why we have created the Endowment for Agricultural Safety and Health. That's why we are asking for your help. When you give to the Endowment for Agricultural Safety and Health, your investment joins others to build a growing principal from which funds can be drawn in perpetuity. Only a portion of the annual return of the invested principal is used for programs each year. In this way, your gift will endure forever.
Most Pennsylvania farms are family operations. When you give to the Endowment for Agricultural Safety and Health, you are investing in the crusade to build a safer and more prosperous future for Pennsylvania farm workers and children—a dividend we all share. Since 2000, more than 212 people in Pennsylvania have lost their lives in accidents related to farming and since 1990, the total is a staggering 627. Children account for about 16 percent of those deaths, and senior farmers for about 33 percent of those deaths. Annually, more than 3,000 Pennsylvania farmers suffered injuries while working. About 2 percent of those injuries leave the victim permanently disabled. Compounding the human suffering, the economic cost of this toll is greater than $100 million annually.

There are many options to choose from when making a gift to the Endowment for Agricultural Safety and Health. These options include cash, memorials, securities, personal property, life insurance, and estate gifts. Some of these gift techniques can not only make a significant impact on the endowment, but can also provide tax and other benefits to the donor. Professionals in the college's development office are available to help potential benefactors choose the most beneficial gift asset and the best method for transferring that asset to the university.
